You can now add Oscar- and Grammy-winning singer and musician Melissa Etheridge to the growing list of celebrities who are jumping into the cannabis market. In her own words, Etheridge wants to serve a community of women who feel that, “Hey, I don’t want to take an Ambien every night. I don’t want to have to drink wine every night to relax, because I know those things aren’t good for my body.” The organically sourced cannabis will be offered in a product line that includes tinctures, balms, vapes, ointments and flowers, and is scheduled to hit the shelves by spring 2020.
Etheridge’s experience with cannabis dates back 15 years to when she was using the plant medicinally while undergoing chemotherapy to treat breast cancer. “My eyes were wide-opened,” she said. Etheridge Farms received Santa Cruz County’s first non-retail cannabis license, which authorizes the company to manufacture and distribute out of its 6,000-square-foot facility in Soquel.
