Oakland’s Boundary-Pushing Producer Dials Up Another New-Soul Banger

KRANE and Malika team up for “Tell Me Why.”

If you’re feeling the way that electronic artists like Flume and Oakland-based KRANE are ushering in an exciting new breed of experimental, R&B-tinged dance music, then you need to cue up “Tell Me Why” and keep an eye out for KRANE’s forthcoming follow-up to his mega-cool Fallout LP.

The new single features silky smooth vocals from Malika and continues to blaze a creative path that leans on chopped-up samples, skittering rhythms and forward-thinking melodies. (Budding producers take note, KRANE has also produced six sample packs that work seamlessly with Ableton that you can download here.) The young gun is due to release his new album later this year, so stay tuned to his SoundCloud for all the latest.

In the meantime, take a listen to “Tell Me Why” here, and make sure to follow our “Stay Golden” Spotify playlist for more hand-picked selections born and raised here in California.
