The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch 

The ranch welcomes springtime enthusiasts to wander amongst the colorful 55 acres of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus: a flower renowned for its large, double-petaled blooms that sit atop tall, straight stems. The dazzling attraction stretches eight to ten weeks each year, from early March through early May, with a full slate of activities including live music performances, workshops and wellness classes. For the 2025 season, artist Alex Heveri’s Glass in Flight will features over three dozen glass and steel sculptures of sparkling butterflies, dragonflies, bamboo, bees and insects that complement the gardens and fields. 

Anzo-Borrego Desert State Park

Thousands of visitors come to this desert landscape east of San Diego each year to enjoy the beauty of unique and captivating desert wildflowers in bloom. With 92 different plant families, 346 genera and hundreds of flowering species, there is quite a variety of flora to discover. 

Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

The state flower typically makes its debut in mid-March, covering the area in a blanket of vibrant orange shades. While the duration of this springtime wonder varies year to year, the eight miles of trails through the gentle rolling hills, including a paved section for wheelchair access, make the park a wonderful place to hike and explore any season. Get away from the city and relax in the quietude of the countryside, with the birds singing and hawks gliding silently overhead.

Russian River Preserve

Hundreds of wildflower species grow in Midpen preserves. During peak blooming season, grassland trails are typically the best places to see flowers, but they can be found in a wide variety of habitats. The best locations and dates of the local spring wildflower bloom change from year to year depending on the amount of rainfall, how late it occurs and when the temperatures start to increase.
